Prime TV spot for
Ythan Challenge on The Adventure Show
The Dominion Gas Ythan Challenge was featured in the August 2006 edition
of BBC2 Scotland’s The Adventure Show, presented by Dougie Vipond.
The five-minute slot saw production company Triple Echo's cameras focus
on a number of competitors, including defending champion and overall
winner Mike Stewart and the first woman across the line, Elaine Whyte.
Also featured were women’s runner-up Donna Gray and Ythan Challenge
regulars Bert McIntosh and Tarves Tortoises team member Jenny Barclay.
Race director Alastair Simpson said: “We were really delighted with The
Adventure Show’s coverage.
“The programme painted an excellent picture of the event for viewers,
giving a real flavour of the obstacles and terrain as well as
highlighting the terrific race-day atmosphere.
“Being featured on a prestigious show like this raised our profile
enormously and really helped put the Ythan Challenge on the map as one
of Scotland’s foremost adventure events.”
Alastair added: “Thanks too to everyone who agreed to be interviewed on
the day — you were all fantastic!”
Because of scheduling constraints, the race was not featured in 2007 but
it is hoped The Adventure Show team may make a return visit this year.
The Adventure Show covers a wide range of endurance sports and
activities, such as climbing, hill-running, white-water kayaking and
mountain biking. The programme can also be seen south of the border via
